Job Description:
The Central NY Library Resources Council (CLRC) seeks a part-time, temporary project assistant to work on a health information needs assessment project. The Special Projects Assistant will assist CLRC’s Medical Circuit Librarian with the process of conducting a health information needs assessment for the Madison County Rural Health Council (MCRHC).
The project is funded by an award from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM), Middle Atlantic Region. The project begins no earlier than September 1, 2013 and ends on or before April 30, 2014. The project is funded for a total of approximately 415 hours at the rate of $13 per hour.
The ideal candidate will have an interest in medical or health sciences librarianship. Interested candidates will need access to transportation, as the project will involve travel to locations in neighboring Madison County (travel expenses will be reimbursed at the current NY State rate).
The position is part-time, temporary, and requires approximately 15.0 hours per week.
Position Duties:
Under the supervision of the Medical Circuit Librarian, the Special Projects Assistant will:
Prepare an overview of the current literature in the health information field
Familiarize him/herself with the Planning and Evaluating Health Information Outreach Projects materials provided by NN/LM and the National Library of Medicine
Schedule and conduct needs assessment activitiesSet up meetings with MCRHC and its constituents
Prepare and conduct survey
Make small or large group presentations
Conduct personal interviews with members of MCRHC
Arrange for focus groups if needed
Prepare report analyzing the health information needs of the MCRHC
Develop a plan for addressing identified needs
Create and maintain a web page for the project
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree;
Excellent written and oral communication skills;
knowledge of libraries;
flexible and able to work with a creative, fast-paced team.
Excellent organizational skills;
familiarity with online survey tools;
knowledge of the health information field.
The position requires ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Preferred:
coursework toward MLS
Some library experience
an interest in pursuing a career in health sciences librarianship
Salary & Benefits:
$13 per hour
